Appealing village surrounded by excellent skiing

The village of the Glaciers, as it is popularly called, Grindelwald is the largest of the Bernese Oberland ski resort and is situated amidst spectacular scenery at the foot of the towering North face of the Eiger. Grindelwald is easily accessible by rail or well maintained road and it has an easy access to the whole of the Jungfrau ski region.

Downhill skiing is one of the area's top attractions. Grindelwald is part of the Jungfrau top skiing region, an extensive system of around 200 kilometres of slopes served by 49 cable cableways and lifts. Deep-snow and glacier skiing or night-time descents to Grindelwald Grund are especially exhilarating.
Beginners: The ski school meets at Bodmi, just above the village, and the skiing is well-situated to beginners. Intermediates and Advanced will find the vast ski area of the Jungfrau region most challenging.
Snowboarding:  
The  region is excellent for snowboarders, whilst there is a new Snowboard Valley at the Kleine Scheidegg, with many natural pipes and covering every degree of difficulty.

Skating, ice hockey, curling, tobogganing, bowling, Winter walking. Good selection of shops. Snow sculpture festival in January. Excellent sports centre with indoor swimming pool, gymnasium etc. Good choice of restaurants, cafes, bars, several night-spots. Cinema. Efficient bus and rail service.
